hi! i'm alasdair and i make all your candles.
after moving up to dornoch in 2015 to study golf management at university, i did not think i would be spending my time doing anything other than working in golf. fast forward 10 years; i have just opened my own shop and have left working in golf behind.
i started making candles in 2016 when i realised i was spending too much money on them (was a bit of jo malone & diptyque addict for a while). i set out trying to make properly good smelling candles for less than the big brands.
after finding out what goes into a candle, i learned that there's no way that they should cost more than £60 (for a 200g candle) so set about making my own. granted, my early candles may not have looked amazing, but they always smelled incredible, and so began an obsession with diving into a bit of design and learning about packaging and labelling to make them look better while constantly refining my wax blends & wick selections.
i went to live and work abroad in canada and new zealand for a few years while i figured out what i wanted to do after university, and i always came back to the candles. so the last wee while since i got back has been full steam ahead trying to grow my business.
now in 2026, i'm incredibly proud and happy with my offerings. i have started working with bigger companies (more to follow on this, keep your eye out), and have been trying to get my name out there more by getting my candles into stores and in front of people.
i'm gearing up for a busy season in dornoch, but that doesn't mean that i won't still be making all the candles, reed diffusers and wax melts.
everything is done by me, from website design, photography, graphic design and the actual making to ordering and dealing with suppliers and wholesalers. so when you place an order online, it's me that makes, packs and ships (and writes a thank you card!), or when you come into the shop, it's most likely going to be me that's there!
